Brazil Rio Spa

Brazil Rio Spa is located on Worth Street in TriBeCa and has been open since 2008. I really don’t understand how they;ve stayed in business for so long.

I’ll spare you the image of my feet, despite them being freshly pedicured. And my finger nail polish didn’t last more than 24 hours, so I have no pictures to show you. That’s what happens when someone at a nail salon rushes you out and just slides your sneakers right back on before your polish dries. Yes, she did use some plastic wrap to try to prevent this from happening, but no such luck. And as if this wasn’t annoying enough, just read more about my experience below.

Booking the appointment itself was such a headache because the spa overbooked themselves or their nail technician simply didn’t show up to work. It took me four times to successfully book and keep my appointment. Once I finally made it past the reception desk the fourth time, I wished I never came in the first place, but I had a Pulsd voucher that I needed to redeem and couldn’t get refunded for.

The venue itself is not actually meant to be a nail salon, so getting a mani pedi was extremely uncomfortable because I had to hold my bag and coat in my lap, while managing to keep my nails in the hand dryer. As you can see in the picture above, the spa/salon is a very small space offering a wide variety of services, including: blowouts, cuts, colors, waxing, manicures, pedicures, massages, etc. Have you ever had your nails done with someone blowing a hair dryer in your face? Yea, it’s not typical in a normal spa. Not to mention, if you take a closer look at the walls in the picture, it looks like they ran out of tiles to cover the entire surface, so they spread it out in the most chic way they could, and then stapled loose wires all over the place. The “unfinished” look isn’t working for them, especially paired with their poor client services.

As for the service itself, the nail technician was not very good at all. She spoke on the phone throughout the entire service. And when I took a quick call, she scolded me as if I were being discourteous to her. And to top it off, the manicurist hurt me almost the entire time, by clipping the hell out of my cuticles.

I definitely don’t recommend Brazil Rio Spa for any reason you can think of, whether it’s poor customer service, unprofessional staff, underwhelming performance, etc. Save yourself the aggravation!
